Annie not letting the matter die away easily, she has released an
official press statement through her publicist regarding the coming
together of Pero and 2face over the weekend at a Lagos night club
Quote
I am aware of the photo's circulating the internet with my husband
and Pero Adeniyi. I want to state officially that I was not in that
space at that time and therefore there was no confrontation between
myself and Pero Adeniyi.
Pero Adeniyi and this momentary indiscretion poses no threat whatsoever to my relationship with my husband. As a matter of fact for all of our children's' sake, I do encourage cordial relationships with parties involved.
This year, my focus is solely on God, Family and my Career which
doesn't give me the luxury of paying attention to any distractions.
Nigeria's military has a strong presence in northern towns and cities
Boko Haram
Nigeria's
army failed to protect Baga's civilians despite warnings that militants
were going to attack, rights group Amnesty International has said.
Some reports say as many as 2,000 people died in Boko Haram's
raids on the north-eastern town this month, but the government puts the
toll at 150.
Amnesty quotes an unnamed senior army source as saying the Islamist militants told residents about the offensive.
But the defence spokesman told the BBC there had been continuous patrols.
"It is not true to say nothing was done," Maj Gen Chris Olukolade said in response to Amnesty International's allegations.
Boko Haram launched a full-scale insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria in 2009 to create an Islamic state.
But since the government declared a state of emergency 20
months ago in three north-eastern states to deal with it, Boko Haram has
strengthened and now controls several towns, where it has declared a
caliphate.
Boko Haram at a glance
Founded in 2002, initially focused on opposing Western-style
education - Boko Haram means "Western education is forbidden" in the
Hausa language
Launched military operations in 2009 to create Islamic state
Thousands killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria - has also attacked police and UN headquarters in capital, Abuja
Has abducted hundreds, including at least 200 schoolgirls
According to evidence gathered by Amnesty International,
commanders at the military base in Baga, in the far north-east of
Nigeria, regularly informed military headquarters in November and
December 2014 of the threat of a Boko Haram attack and repeatedly
requested reinforcements.
There were also warnings that the town of Monguno, about
140km (85 miles) north of Maiduguri city which was captured by Boko
Haram on Sunday, would be attacked.
"Everyone was aware," a Monguno resident told Amnesty.
"Boko Haram came on Wednesday last week [21 January] and
asked the villagers [in nearby Ngurno] to leave because they are coming
to attack the barracks. The villagers told the soldiers."
Amnesty International's Africa director Netsanet Belay said
the attacks were an "urgent wake-up call for the Nigerian leadership,
the African Union and the international community".
Maj Gen Olukolade said in operational areas surveillance would have been continuous to ward off attacks.
Earlier this month, Chadian soldiers deployed to Cameroon's border with Nigeria to help secure the porous border.
African Union heads of state are going to include the
conflict in north-eastern Nigeria on the agenda of their summit, due to
begin on Friday.
The assistant head of Arougba village in Oredo Local Government Area
of Edo State, Goodluck Uwumahongie, has been beheaded by assailants over
alleged land tussle.
The killers were said to have left with the victim’s head after he was shot by the assailants.
Late Uwumahongie, aged 85, had fled to Irhirhi after crisis broke out
at Aruogba where many houses were burnt and three persons killed.
He was said to be alone at his in-law’s residence at Irhirhi village when the attackers struck.
Confirming the incident, widow of the victim, Julie, 55, said she was
informed at about 5:30 that her husband had been killed, over a landed
property.
“One Osamwonyi had earlier threatened to kill my husband before the
crisis. After we ran away from the village during the crisis to seek
refuge at my father’s village at Irhirhi, Osamwonyi saw him here and
said he would still kill him.”
When contacted, Edo State Police Command’s spokesman, Joseph
Edogiawerie, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the
killing.
He said police were on the trail of the killers.
A
man suspected of trying to lure a boy into gay sex narrowly escaped
being beaten to death by an angry mob. But for timely intervention by
elders and sympathizers, a 61-year-old man suspected to be gay,
identified simply as Salisu, could have been beaten to death by an angry
mob in the Apapa area of Lagos State, after he was allegedly nabbed in
the act of trying to lure a 13-year-old boy into his lair. The man
was said to have lured the boy with N500 near Anjorin market about 6pm
on Sunday, 25 January, 2015. Not knowing that he was being watched,
Saliu was said to have started rubbing the boy’s private part. Those who
saw him in the act, burst into the scene and apprehended him. An eye
witness who gave his name as Olubode Durosimi, revealed that the man
had wanted to lure the boy into the act of homosexuality when luck ran
out on him. "The gay was rubbing the boy’s private part beside Anjorin market when two men saw him and raised the alarm. Other men around joined and gave the gay the beating of his life. The man said it was the devil that pushed him into such act. He
claimed that was the first time he would attempt such act. The boy said
he offered him N500 and begged him not to talk because he would like
it. Some people came and pleaded on his behalf and he was allowed to
go. People wanted to hand him over to the police but later withdrew
because the man was injured and had lost a lot of blood."
Apparently dazed by the successes of the operations launched by the
Nigerian Army against it, Boko Haram militants had resorted to the use
of child suicide bombers to hit their targets.
While Nigerians are still grappling with this development, the group
has revealed that it is training child soldiers to prosecute its war
against Nigeria.
A media organisation associated with the group has published two
images which reveal a military training camp for children in
North-Eastern Nigeria.
The media organization described by the Long War Journal as the Media
Wing of Boko Haram and called, Al-Urwa al-Wuthaqa, shows the children
dressed in dark clothing with their heads covered by garments. In one
photo, the children are aiming their guns while in another they are
posing with the weapons.
The Long War Journal claims that both young girls and boys are
present in the photos, while some are holding AK47 assault rifles,
others are holding cutouts of weapons.
With this development, Boko Haram joins several other jihadist groups
around the world in showcasing training for young children. In 2013,
the Turkistan Islamic Party, an al Qaeda affiliated group that operates
in Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and Syria, released a video showing
kids training in Pakistan.
The Taliban are also known to operate training camps, including those
for suicide bombings, for youth in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Additionally, The Long War Journal has identified several training camps
for children in Iraq and Syria.
These camps are run by jihadist groups such as the Islamic State, the Al Nusrah Front, Junud al Sham, and Ahrar al Sham.
Buhari’s lead in the poll was despite the president’s
shelling out of N5 million per daily showing of his sponsored
documentary against Buhari that was being repeatedly shown on AIT
stations across Nigeria, and online.
by SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK
Screenshot of the AIT online page without the poll
Sahara Reporters Media
African
Independent Television (AIT) has suddenly removed a popular online poll
where the All Progressives Congress party candidate, Muhammadu Buhari,
was resoundingly beating President Goodluck Jonathan.
Buhari’s lead in the poll was despite the president’s shelling out of
N5 million per daily showing of his sponsored documentary against
Buhari that was being repeatedly shown on AIT stations across Nigeria,
and online.
Earlier on Tuesday, SaharaReporters published a screenshot of the
poll, which at that time showed Buhari well ahead by over 76%.
As the day wore on, the poll saw Buhari’s lead rise to 79%. It was
then swiftly taken down, AIT replacing the page with a claim that the
page was “under maintenance.”
That behavior was reminiscent of a similar incident last year by Mr.
Jonathan’s social media aide, Reno Omokri, who is Mr. Jonathan’s social
media aide. In an effort to provide a rebuttal to a SaharaReporters
poll showing Mr. Jonathan being handsomely defeated by General Buhari,
Omokri manipulated a poll he had set up, and then hurriedly shut it down
with Jonathan ahead of Buhari by 1%.
AIT did not say whether its poll page would return after its
‘maintenance’, but some users had noted earlier that the TV station was
allowing multiple voting for President Jonathan.
That was subsequently corrected, a fact that was also noted by users,
following which Buhari again regained the lead. AIT then suddenly went
into ‘maintenance’.
The Boyfriend singer apparently caused £12k of damage when he egged neighbour's house
Justin Bieber will reportedly face criminal vandalism charges after egging a neighbour's house.
The 20-year-old singer is accused of causing around $20k (£12k) of damage with more than a dozen raw eggs after the incident in January.
Now
it seems the controversial star could be facing charges later this
week, although it's not yet known if it will be filed as a felony or
misdemeanor, say TMZ.com.
Video surveillance footage from Justin's
Californian mansion was seized, which show that the singer was in his
house when the attack occurred.
Justin is adored by his Belieber fans
His neighbour also recorded the incident, which apparently
features Justin's voice off-camera saying "F*** you! I got another one
for you actually."
It's thought the star had fallen out with his
neighbour after he regularly called the police over the singer's
boisterous parties
The neighbour claims that the egg attack damaged his mansion's plaster and wood exterior.
This comes just days after Justin reportedly agreed a plea bargain after being charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license.
The
agreement was apparently delayed since he was arrested in January
because the judge wanted Justin to pay for and star in an anti-drugs
campaign.
Police claimed they busted the singer drag racing drunk in
Miami beach earlier this year but it turned out he wasn't over the blood
limit for alcohol, and wasn't speeding.
He did, however, test
positive for marijuana and confessed to taking anti-depressents. It's
thought he'll plead guilty to dangerous driving with the other charges
due to be dismissed, according to TMZ.
It's claimed Justin will pay an undisclosed fine and is expected to attend anger management classes as part of the deal.
The badboy rapper has been in permanent hot water lately. In May he was accused of attempted robbery, although the investigation was later dropped. Soon after, he made headlines when two videos popped up of him using the N-word.
Superstar
singer Usher defended Justin over racism claims, but we wonder if the
troubled star will run out friends if he carries on like this.
The Spaniard appeared to leave his foot in on Can during
Tuesday night's clash - but the FA will not be taking any further action
for a later tussle with Martin Skrtel
Diego Costa has been charged by the FA - and faces a three match ban
which will rule him out of Saturday's title crunch with Manchester City. Chelsea striker Costa
was charged with violent conduct after his first half stamp on
Liverpool's Emre Can after referee Michael Oliver admitted he did not
see the incident.
Costa has been cleared of the second alleged stamp on Martin Skrtel after it was revised again.
The rules are slightly different for the Capital One Cup
as it is a Football League competition so the incidents - which weren't
in Oliver's report - were referred back to him and he reviews the
incidents rather than they go to a three man panel
Costa has until 6pm Thursday to appeal or ask for a hearing
with the commission likely to then decide on the punishment on Friday.
It means any punishment - if he is found guilty it will be a three game ban- will be done in advance of Saturday's game.
The immediacy of the action on the FA's part is a major step forward and triumph for the disciplinary process.
The FA statement read: "Diego Costa has been charged by The
FA for violent conduct following an on-field incident which was not seen
by the match officials but caught on video.
"The charge is in
relation to an incident involving the Chelsea forward and Liverpool’s
Emre Can which occurred in the 12th minute of the League Cup semi-final
second leg at Stamford Bridge last night.
"Following a review of
an incident during the game involving Costa and Liverpool’s Martin
Skrtel, The FA will not be taking any further action."
The stunning find was discovered in Mongolia with experts reckoning the body has sat undiscovered since the 1800s
These are the amazingly intact remains of a monk meditating that have lay undiscovered since sometime in the 1800s.
The discovery of the man sat in the lotus position has sparked a
forensic investigation into the unknown religious devotee - with
experts' initial evaluation suggesting the mummified remains are at least 200 years old.
The human relic, which had been preserved in animal skin, was found
this week in Songinokhairkhan province, according to Mongolia's Morning
Newspaper.
Investigators are now studying the remains in the capital Ulaanbataar.
In Koh Samui, Thailand, a mummified monk wearing sunglasses - Luong Pordaeng, who died in 1973 – provides an unusual tourist attraction.

Turkish taxi driver Oktay Kilic, 40, has been jailed for 27 years after launching the savage attack on family man Mark Berney
A jealous husband stabbed his love rival to death in front of his kids after following her to a beauty spot.
Turkish taxi driver Oktay Kilic, 40, launched the savage attack after catching family man Mark Berney being intimate with his estranged wife Kathleen.
He
lunged at Mr Berney with the 16cm blade after using a tracker app to
trace his wife's car, believing she was going to meet her lover.
The
app traced his iPhone, which he had secretly taped into the boot of her
car, to a beauty spot near Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Kilic, who was today jailed for 27 years,
was possessive, controlling and violent towards his 44 year-old wife
and his marriage was breaking down amid fears she was seeing other men.
Bryan
Cox, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court: "In police interviews Mr
Kilic said 'at the time I did it, I felt one thousand times bigger than
that little piece of sh*t sat in the car.'
"Mr Kilic had the sole
intention of meeting Mr Berney to kill him or at least heavily injure
him. He had shown his anger issues in the past during his marriage with
Mrs Kilic.
"Mrs Kilic had found her husband to be jealous, obsessive, possessive and controlling.
She had to seek help from domestic abuse charities."
Mr
Cox added at the hearing: "During 2014, Kathleen began to talk to an old
school friend on the internet, the deceased, Mark Berney.
"The defendant became suspicious that an affair was taking place and went to considerable lengths to find out who Mr Berney was.
"On
the August 3 2014 Mrs Kilic had arranged to meet Mr Berney in the
evening. She told the defendant that she had an appointment with a
client.
"But he didn't believe her, so he placed a mobile phone in
the boot of her car on which there was an application so that he could
trace her movements on his laptop.
"He left home in his taxi, taking the children with him.
"When
he got there, he got out of the car taking with him a substantial
kitchen knife and went to the front door of the Toyota and opened the
passenger door where Mr Berney was sat.
"He shouted at Mr Berney: "What the f**k are you doing with my wife?"
"The two tussled for a while but Kilic managed to open it and lunged at him with the knife.
"The
wounds inflicted Mr Berney were a large gaping wound to the throat and
stab wounds to the heart, as well as knife-caused injuries to his limbs,
backside and genitals.
"Mr Berney fell unconscious and died quickly afterwards."
Kilic, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on
the grounds he lost control at seeing his wife with Mr Berney, A jury
took just 45 minutes today to reach a unanimous verdict.
John
McDermott, for Kilic, told the court his client was under severe stress
at the time of the murder due to the breakdown of the marriage, saying
it otherwise "would not have taken place".
He said: "We don't own
our spouses and rightly so. But we cannot ignore infidelity. It is the
most provocative thing in the mind of a man."
In a victim impact
statement read out in court, Mr Berney's daughter Amy, 20, described
losing her dad "through horrific circumstances" was the "worst thing
that could ever happen".
She said: "There is a hole in my heart
that is never going to heal. My dad was my best friend. He was always
there for me no matter what.
"My dad was a family man and did everything in his power to be
there for us all. He would do anything for anyone and asked for nothing
in return."
Jailing Kilic for life with a minimum of 27 years,
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC condemned him for committing the murder in
front of his children.
He said: "You put the children in the car
knowing that if you confronted Kathleen and the man she was with there
was every likelihood that you would use the knife."
He added: "Mr
Berney was in no way responsible for the breakdown of your marriage and I
am satisfied that he believed that Kathleen's marriage was over. He did
not deserve to die.
"No words of mine can bring comfort to those
who have been so profoundly affected by what you did. His family will
have to live with this for the rest of their lives."
North
Yorkshire Police said the case has "highlighted the growing use of
online and mobile technology in domestic abuse, harassment and serious
crimes".
A man suspected of being behind the manufacture of explosives used in a series of Boko Haram suicide attacks has been arrested in northeast Nigeria, a senior police officer told AFP on Tuesday.
The man, identified only as Ba’na, was held in the Arikime area of Potiskum after several weeks of surveillance, said the officer, who was involved in the Sunday arrest.
Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe State, has been hit by a wave of bombings in recent months, including a suicide attack on a secondary school in November 10 in which 58 people were killed.
On January 18, at least four people died in an attack on a bus station, while the previous weekend two women wearing suicide vests killed six people at a market and two died in a car bombing outside a police station.
The police officer, who asked not to be identified because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said Ba’na was in his mid-thirties and had admitted making the bombs.
“He confessed to being responsible for the manufacture of the explosives used in at least three suicide attacks and the car explosion outside the divisional police station,” he added.
Nine alleged accomplices were also arrested in a hideout in the town hours after Ba’na’s arrest.
Ba’na allegedly made the explosives used in the November school attack, the January 10 car bombing and January 11 market blasts, the source said.
He was said to have moved to Potiskum from the state capital Damaturu three years ago and worked as a stonemason and water vendor before getting married.
“He was quite good at his disguise and his mason and water vending jobs gave him perfect cover,” the officer said.
One
of the biggest challenges in an Android phone is dealing with phone
storage and memory issues. Unlike say the iPhone, if you have a 32GB
iPhone, you can use the entire space for downloading and using
applications. However, with the Android model, you get more flexibility
in that you can upgrade to a bigger SD card but you are still limited by
the number of apps that you can download and run.
Does your
phone memory go low when you try to install a new application? Do you
get the error message “Phone Storage Space is getting low”? There are
some techniques out on the Internet especially those involving moving
apps from memory to the SD Card of your phone. But all these solutions
require you to root aka jailbreak your phone using something like App2SD
application. In this article, we tell you how you can resolve the
memory issue on your phone without any of these complicated solutions or
jailbreaking your Android Phone.
This is how you resolve the Phone Storage Space is getting low issue on Android Phones
Method A: Clear cache and history in your apps
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications to view your apps
Press the menu button and sort by size
Go to the apps and clear cache (from the browser app’s settings), mail and other apps
Also
goes without saying, but if you have any apps you do not use or just
hogging size, you may want to uninstall them to free up some space
Clear cache and data in Android phone
Method B: Perform a soft reset of your Android Phone
A
soft reset basically resets the memory structure of your Android
handheld. This recovers the device from memory conflicts, corrupted
system service chains, memory leaks, and system lockups due to the
“Fatal Exception” program errors. This method was officially suggested
by the HTC support for resolving the phone storage space issue and low
memory warnings. To perform a soft reset:
Power the device off
Remove the battery for 10 seconds
Re-insert the battery and power the device on
HTC Customer support answer for low memory issue
Method C: Move apps to the SD card instead of memory without rooting your phone
Until
now the only way to reduce memory space issues and low storage space
issues on Android phones was to move the apps from using the memory to
the SD card which has a much bigger storage space. Also, the only way to
do this was to use the app called App2SD which required rooting or
jailbreaking the phone. Not good because it may void your warranty etc.
However, Google listened and with Froyo or Android 2.2 release, they
included the App2SD functionality. Many developers however did not
choose to use this option. The technique outlined here enables you to
movie your apps to the SD card even if the app does not allow it.
Step 1: You need to download the Android SDK to your computer
Download the Android SDK and run the installer file (recommended option) for Windows. Download the zip file for Mac OS X and Linux
Run the installer file. You may be asked to download the Java SE Dev Kit (JDK) if you don’t have one
Finish
the installation wizard. By default, the SDK files are installed into a
directory named android-sdk-<machine-platform>
Once done, it will launch the Android SDK and AVD Manager with a recommended set of platforms and components. Simply select Install
Download Android SDK Packages
Step 2: Now connect your phone to your PC and enable debug mode for your Android phone
USB
debugging is intended for development purposes only. It can be used to
copy data between your computer and your device, install applications on
your device without modification, and read log data.
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and check USB debugging
You will get a popup to “Allow USB debugging?” – Hit OK
Enable USB debugging mode in Android phone
Step 3: Download the USB drivers for your Android phone
If
you have a Nexus One, Nexus S, T-Mobile G1, T-Mobile myTouch, Verizon
Droid or one of the Android Developer Phones, you need the Google USB
Driver
For all other Android phones, you need the OEM driver. Find and Install your OEM USB drivers here
Launch the SDK and AVD Manager by double-clicking SDK Manager.exe, at the root of your SDK directory
Expand the Third party Add-ons and Google Inc. add-ons
Check Google Usb Driver package and click Install selected.Proceed to install the package
When done, the driver files are downloaded into the <sdk>\google-usb_driver\ directory
Download USB Drivers for Android phone
Step 4: Windows now needs to install USB drivers for your Android phone
The installation fails and you have to install the drivers manually.
Right click on My Computer. Select Properties and go to Device Manager
You will see the missing driver with the exclamation mark on it
Either double click on right click on it. Select Update Driver Software
Browse for the USB drivers folder in the Android SDK folder you downloaded and updated in Step 3 earlier. It will be in <sdk>\google-usb_driver\
Click Next
to install the driver. You might get a message asking if you want to
install the device software and if you trust the driver publisher. Hit
Install.
Device Manager showing missing USB drivers for Nexus One
Location for USB drivers for Android phone
Device Manager showing successful installation of USB Drivers
Step 5: Configure Android phone to install apps on SD Card
Open the Windows command prompt. You can do this by pressing <Windows key> + R. At the Run prompt, type in cmd
You
need to change your path to the platform-tools folder in the Android
SDK you downloaded and installed. Check pictures below for help
Go to android-sdk folder and then go to platform-tools
Type adb shell and a $ prompt will appear
At the $ prompt, type pm setInstallLocation 2 and hit enter. You will get a message of pm setInstallLocation 2 at the $ sign again.
Close the command prompt by hitting x button
ADB shell commands
Step 6: Cleanup and reboot the Android Phone
Uncheck the USB debugging option by going to Settings -> Applications -> Development and un-check USB debugging
Disconnect the phone and reboot it. That’s it !!
Step 7: Move Android applications to SD Card from your phone
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications
You
can start to move applications to SD Card including those you could not
move before and start clearing out disk space and low memory
Make
sure you don’t move apps that require a background service running all
the time. This includes your task manager apps and a few other apps
This option also becomes the default. All the apps you install now by default will be installed to the SD Card
No more Phone Storage Space is getting Low issues for your Android phone
In the picture below, I moved the AK Notepad app to the SD card and saved some storage space
Now its turn of Google Android mobile phones.
Recently I got a Google Android mobile phone "Samsung Galaxy I7500".

One of the limitations of WhatsApp
is that you can only use it on your phone. If you are not carrying your
phone, you're stuck without WhatsApp. Well, not anymore.
WhatsApp has rolled out WhatsApp Web that lets you use WhatsApp inside a desktop browser. Here are instructions on how to setup WhatsApp Web. However, if you are unable to use WhatsApp Web for some reason, there's another way. Read on.
Note
that while this guide is for WhatsApp, you can run almost any Android
app using this method. Just replace the apk file in step 5, with the apk
of the Android app you want to run. Here's a good source to download apk files.
(Also see:How to Run Android Apps on a PC)
1. You're going to need an Android emulator app to accomplish this. We've tried it with Bluestacks App Player but it should work with any other emulator too. You'll also need a mobile phone to verify the WhatsApp account.
2. Download Bluestacks App Player on your computer.
3.
Run the setup file to install it. During installation, Bluestacks will
ask for App Store Access and App Notifications. You can uncheck both
while installing.
4. Wait for the installation to finish (it
takes several minutes). During the final stages of installation,
Bluestacks will run in full-screen mode. Tap the diagonal line icon on
the top-right to run it in windowed mode. This makes the next few steps
easy.
5. Leave Bluestacks App Player running and go to your browser. Download the WhatsApp apk file.
6.

14. You can add contacts individually to WhatsApp by clicking on the three dots icon on the top-right > Contacts.
Click the contact icon on the top-right, next to search. These contacts
will be saved locally and will not show up on other devices. You can
then start sending messages to these contacts as well.
15. Any
groups you're a part of will also not show up on the PC. You will have
to ask the group admin to add you to the group again.
If you're
hoping to use WhatsApp on both your PC and your phone at the same time,
you are out of luck. One phone number can be associated with only one
device at a time - your phone will stop receiving WhatsApp messages when
you're using it on the desktop. Another limitation is that you can't
switch between the two devices instantly. WhatsApp imposes a 20-minute
delay between two verification attempts (this delay keeps increasing
with each verification attempt on the same day), so keep that in mind
when setting it up on any device.

Top
security officials just confirmed that Islamist
fighters today overwhelmed the 243 battalion of the Nigerian Army
stationed at Monguno Barracks. The insurgents killed an undetermined
number of soldiers and wounded the brigade commander of the barracks.

Sahara Reporters Media
Our sources said soldiers who put up resistance to the invading
insurgents were killed, adding that many soldiers then ran in different
directions. They disclosed that 1,400 soldiers were stationed at the
barracks at the time of the attack, adding that military authorities
were not aware of their exact whereabouts or how many of them had been
killed. “We still don’t know what has happened to them [soldiers], but
we know that Boko Haram now controls the barracks and Monguno town,” one
officer based in Abuja confirmed. Despite the losses, Nigerian Defense Headquarters said the military
was conducting air raids around the besieged barracks, adding that
soldiers had to tactically withdraw from the town due to injuries
sustained by the brigade commander and others. Contrary to our earlier report that Nigerian troops had repelled
attacks on the barracks, our sources said the military facility had
fallen to the Islamist terrorists. “They [Boko Haram] have gained full
control of the barracks, together with all the weapons there,” one
senior military source told us over the phone. The
source echoed a statement by another military source in Maiduguri,
capital of Borno State, that the Islamist fighters had killed many
soldiers and a huge number of civilians in Monguno. Monguno town, home of the overrun barracks, is 85 miles from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Boko Haram began attacking Monguno and Maiduguri simultaneously since
last night, but Nigerian troops succeeded in repelling them from
Maiduguri. After an intense battle in the state capital that lasted
several hours, Nigerian troops were able to repel the insurgent attack.
Nigerian troops said they had killed more than 100 Islamist fighters in
the Maiduguri offensive.
Teacher Debbie Monteforte took the photo of her husband Alex and their son Raphael at Christmas - but they were in for a shock
Look very closely and you can see that this pub is a favourite haunt of at least one regular.
For in the top-right corner of the grainy image, a tall ghostly
figure is pictured lingering in the background of a happy family snap.
Teacher Debbie Monteforte took the photo of her husband Alex and their son Raphael at Christmas.
A family friend said: “Debbie took the pic and thought nothing of it.
But when they looked at it on a computer it was plain to see the
haunted face of a woman wearing a long dark coat behind them.
“The family insists there was no one standing behind them and there was no place to hang a coat.
"Even if there was someone standing there, they would have to be 8ft tall to appear like that. It’s beyond spooky.”
The Kings Arms Hotel is one of Britain’s oldest pubs and sits in the shadows of Hampton Court Palace, south west London.
The 300-year-old boozer, near King Henry VIII’s former residence, has a dark past.
In the 19th century, a boy is rumoured to have found his mother
hanged in the building. The lad was so disturbed he threw himself out a
window and died.
Both “ghosts” of the mum and son are said to have haunted the pub
ever since. A grey-haired lady is also said to appear in a bedroom
window.
There was pandemonium today in Suleja Niger State as some miscreants alleged to be APC sympathizers stopped and burnt a PDP campaign bus,
According to eyewitness, trouble started immediately the bus was set ablaze as some youths who were in the bus started unleashing mayhem on their assailants, but for the quick intervention of the well armed Nigerian military and police it could have escalated even further as many supporters of the main opposition parties began to engage in fights which left over 12 persons severely injured although no casualty has been reported as at the time of filing this report.
Frantic efforts were made to save tragic Jamie Gant life but the youngster died in hospital
An 11-year-old schoolboy was found hanged in his bedroom just minutes
after telling his mum he was going to his room to finish his homework.
Jamie Gant was found suspended from his bunk bed on a Sunday afternoon in September last year.
The
tragic schoolboy was discovered just ten minutes after he went
upstairs, when his mum popped her head around his bedroom door as she
put washing away.
Frantic efforts were made to revive the youngster but he was pronounced dead at hospital.
Police yesterday said the reasons for his death were a mystery and there was no indication he wanted to kill himself.
He
had started secondary school just three weeks before he was found dead
on September 28 last year but appeared to be popular and happy at
school.
No details were given of how he came to be suspended, or what was around his neck. Detective Sergeant Tom Herbert
told the inquest: "There was absolutely no indication that there was
anything contributing to the death, or anything else people had been
aware of.
"Everyone felt Jamie was a very happy boy, very popular
at school and he had just started playing rugby which he was very keen
on.
"There was no indication that he was unhappy. His parents felt
he had been able to speak to them if he had been concerned as he had in
the past. There was no evidence of bullying.” The inquest
at Flax Bourton, nr Bristol, heard how Jamie, of Twerton, Bath, had
told his mum he was going to his room to complete his homework.
But just 10 minutes later, on September 28 last year, as his mum checked on him, he was found lifeless.
Jamie was rushed to Bath's Royal United Hospital but, despite medics best efforts, he was declared dead.
Coroner Maria Voisin returned a narrative conclusion and
said: "I'm told Jamie was a lovely, popular boy and there is no mention
of anything that would have led to, or caused an intention, in relation
to this.
"There is clearly the act which resulted in Jamie's
death, but I do not consider I have enough evidence to answer whether
the intention of Jamie was to take his life.
"He may not have realised that death was the conclusion of his act.”
Paying tribute to their son at the time of his death, his parents said Jamie had a bright future.
In
a statement they said: "Jamie, was a much loved and very happy young
boy who had a bright future which has been sadly cut short.
"He will be deeply missed by family friends and all who knew him."
Andrea Cutler, 39, attacked grandmother Sandra Bainbridge,
70, with two knives, stabbing her 70 times and then covering her with a
duvet in the back yard
Killed: Sandra Bainbridge
A pensioner was stabbed to death by a squatter she found when she returned from holiday, a court heard.
Andrea Cutler, 39, attacked grandmother Sandra Bainbridge, 70, with two knives, stabbing her 70 times.
She put her body in the back yard under a duvet.
Cutler had broken into Mrs Bainbridge's home while she was on a winter break in Turkey.
She
also threatened the retired civil servant's partner, Derek Joyner, with
a knife when he came to check on Sandra the following day.
He
told police he was chased into the street by single mum Cutler and
described the chilling incident as "like a horror film without the
music".
The day after killing Mrs
Bainbridge, Cutler visited shops in Belper, withdrawing cash and buying
goods, and went to see a former boyfriend in Derby who described her
behaviour as 'normal'.
In a victim impact statement read to the
court Mr Joyner said: "Sandra's death has totally changed my life, she
was a loving partner who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Murder scene: Home of 70 year-old Sandra Bainbridge
"We should have been going on the holiday of a lifetime to Mexico. Instead I was attending her funeral.
"People think I have coped well with the trauma and the grief but the nights alone are lonely and I struggle to sleep."
Drug addict Cutler admitted diminished responsibility manslaughter over the killing in Belper, Derbys, in December 2013.
A judge at Nottingham crown court called her “very dangerous”. He sent her to a psychiatric unit indefinitely.

Mr Nketia (right) was mocked for wearing the fur-trimmed winter coat
A
senior official in Ghana's ruling party has laughed off criticism for
wearing his wife's coat during an official visit to Germany, it's
reported.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, general secretary of the National
Democratic Congress, was snapped wearing a camel-coloured, fur-trimmed
number on the trip, and was promptly ridiculed by fellow politicians and
social media users, the Graphic website reports.
Mr Nketia says nobody in Germany mentioned his choice of attire, but it
was a different story back home in Ghana, where one opposition
politician seized on the fashion choice as evidence of a "totally confused" administration.
Mr Nketia has met the mockery with good humour, and says he
isn't bothered by the fuss. "When we embark on a state visit... we are
going to use our brains to help the country, not to showcase our attire
at fashion show," he said in a radio interview,
adding that he didn't see the point in buying a new coat for such a
fleeting visit. And it seems there is an upside to being ridiculed for
your fashion choices. In an interview published on the Ghana Vibes website Mr Nketia says: "I can hit my chest and say that I'm the only political party executive to chart a new fashion trend.
WhatsApp Plus had been offered as an alternative to the official app since 2012
WhatsApp is imposing 24-hour lock-outs on people trying to access its service via an unauthorised Android app.
The Facebook-owned messaging service said that it had acted
against users of WhatsApp Plus because of concerns that the program
might cause private data to be leaked to third-parties.
The unofficial app offers extra ways to customise how conversations appear.
Experts say Android users should be cautious about where they download apps from.
WhatsApp recently reported it
had 700 million users sending an average of 30 billion messages a day.
It currently charges a $0.99 (65p) annual fee to users who sign up to
the service after their first 12 months of using it.
"Our goal is always to keep WhatsApp fast and secure for the
people who use it - it's the most important thing we do," said a
spokesman for the firm.
"Third-parties that have built unauthorised functionality on top of WhatsApp create issues for people including lost messages.
"This goes against the experience we work hard to give people
and we won't let it continue. Starting today, we are taking aggressive
action against unauthorised apps and alerting the people who use them."
The effort coincides with the introduction of the ability
to access WhatsApp from the Google Chrome web browser, as an
alternative to the app. This will not, however, work on Apple's iPhones
or iPads. Cease and desist letter
According to one app store, WhatsApp Plus had itself been downloaded more than 35 million times since its 2012 releases by a Spanish developer, who called himself Rafalense.
Security consultant Graham Cluley said that figure sounded
"surprisingly high", but acknowledged there was no independent way to
verify it.
WhatsApp Plus' own website appears to be offline at this time.
WhatsApp Plus users are being temporarily banned from the official service
But the moderator of a development community, which had
supported it, used Google Plus to indicate that work on the software
would now be put on hold.
"We have received a cease and desist letter from WhatsApp and
we are obligated to remove all download links and unfortunately delete
this community," he wrote.
"[I] am really sorry for this but it's out of our hands and
WhatsApp has pushed us into a corner that we can't escape this time. It
was a fun ride but it has come to an end.
"Deepest regards from Rafalense and me and all the WhatsApp Plus team for your support." Twenty-four hour bans
WhatsApp Plus offers a way to use colours and background images in chat conversations that are unavailable in the official app.
In addition, it allows users to increase the size limit on
attached video and sound files and also lets them prevent others being
able to see when they last logged into the service - a feature it used
to charge a "donation" to unlock.
To access the features, smartphone owners must first uninstall the official WhatsApp app if it is already on their handsets.
President
Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Thursday said
nobody or group could threaten her if she decided to visit any part of
the country.
The president’s wife, who spoke through her media assistant, Ayo
Adewuyi, was reacting to threats by some youth groups to disgrace her if
she attends the grand rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yenagoa
next month.
Two youth groups – Bayelsa Youth Vanguard and the Mangrove Boys of
Bayelsa – had, in separate statements, issued in Abuja and Yenagoa,
barred the First Lady from accompanying President Jonathan to the rally
in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
The youths, who accused Mrs. Jonathan of stoking the flame of
division in the state by working against the state Governor, Hon.
Seriake Dickson, had vowed to embarrass and disgrace her at the rally.
But the spokesman for the First Lady described the groups as faceless.
Adewuyi insisted that Mrs. Jonathan would not be cowed into avoiding
any part of the country because of threats from such groups.
He said, “We will not descend so low to be joining issues with faceless groups.
“The fact however remains that the First Lady as the wife of the
President cannot be threatened by anybody or any group if she decides to
visit any part of the country”.
Asisat Oshoala is signing a contract with Liverpool Ladies.
It should be added that a 20-year-old football star moves to the
FA Women’s Super League champions from Nigerian Women’s Championship
winners, Rivers Angels.
Commenting on her fresh contract and new team, Oshoala said: “To be able to join the reigning Super League champions is absolutely fantastic. “Liverpool Ladies are a massive club with some fantastic players who I believe can help me to develop my game to the next level. “It was also a big incentive to be able to play in the Women’s
Champions League, which is a huge competition that I’m confident we can
do well in.”
The coach of Liverpool Ladies, Matt Beard, also shared his emotions with journalist:“She’s not the finished article yet but she’s got pace, power and she certainly knows where the goal is. “I watched her at the Under-20 World Cup, where she was
sensational, and we had early dialogue with her about coming to
Liverpool. “There’s been plenty of other interest in her in the last few months, but she chose to join us and I’m absolutely delighted.”
Although Oshoala is very young, she can already boast of her great
achievements. She won both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball – as Player
of the Tournament – at last year’s Under-20 World Cup Finals. Moreover,
she became the first player from Africa to compete in the Women’s Super
League.
Nigeria’s top security official on Friday ruled out the need for a United Nations or African Union-backed force to fight Boko Haram, saying the country and its partners could handle the threat.
Possible “enhanced international support” against Boko Haram will be discussed on the sidelines of an AU summit later this month, given fears about the group’s threat to regional stability.
But national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, a former army colonel, said wider assistance would not be necessary.
“It’s something that we can do. It’s absolutely something we can do,” he told BBC World Service radio in an interview.
“I think as it is we are in good shape to address the issue with those partners, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.”
Representatives from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon met this week to thrash out details of a new regional force to counter the rising threat from the Islamist militants.
An existing force, made up of troops from Nigeria, Niger and Chad appears to have collapsed in disarray even before the January 3 attack on its headquarters near the northeastern town of Baga.
Troops from Niger and Chad were not present during the raid, which saw Baga razed and hundreds of civilians, if not more, killed in what is feared could be the insurgents’ worst atrocity.
Tuesday’s meeting agreed to transfer the headquarters of the new force from Nigeria to the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, reflecting concern about Boko Haram’s rising transnational threat.
Boko Haram has seized dozens of towns and villages in the northeast in the last six months and now controls the border of Borno State with Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
Some analysts have suggested that it is trying to revive a defunct 19th century Islamic caliphate, whose borders corresponded to parts of modern-day Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
The group’s leader Abubakar Shekau, however, mocked the proposed new force in a video published online on Tuesday, boasting that his fighters would take on all comers and that “Nigeria is dead”.
“The kings of Africa… I challenge you to attack me now. I am ready,” he said.
